Class Description
Jet Noise is the Sound of Freedom is a compendium of information about the Air Force. Its origins were in the classroom, as I discovered how little my students – and their parents and my fellow teachers – often knew about the military. We live in a time when only about 10% of men under 70 have served in the military, so much of the lore and history of the armed forces isn’t passed down in families. This book addresses that in the space I know best – that of the US Air Force: its history, customs, duties, and life in uniform.
I’ll talk about the first aviation pioneers, wood-and-fabric World War I biplanes, and the first round-the-world flights. These stumbling steps were the first on a path that changed our lives and the world we live in. I’ll talk about the use of the Air Force in war and peace, and what this means to us today, as airpower shapes present and future conflicts. All this and more will be covered in this lesson.
The Air Force’s history is a point of pride for those who have worn Air Force blue, a legacy for those who will follow, and a shield and sword for the American people.
What’s at stake this fall for Hamilton County? And what is the future of the Hamilton County Republican Party?
The upcoming election season will be an important one for Hamilton County, with local, state, and national races offering voters choices that could shape the direction of the community and the Republican Party for years to come. This session will examine what is at stake this fall, including the races, issues, and political dynamics that are likely to influence voter turnout and election results. We will look at the priorities of Republican candidates, the concerns of voters, and the challenges facing the party as it works to compete and build support in Hamilton County.
Beyond the immediate election, the future of the Hamilton County Republican Party is also an important part of the conversation. The party faces questions about leadership, organization, messaging, candidate recruitment, fundraising, and its ability to connect with voters across the county. We will explore how changing demographics, political attitudes, and divisions within the broader Republican Party could affect the local organization. The discussion will also consider how county-level Republicans can build a stronger presence in local government, attract new voters, and develop a pipeline of candidates for future elections.
Ultimately, this session will look beyond Election Day to consider where the Hamilton County GOP goes from here. What lessons can the party learn from the upcoming election? What issues will define its future, and what will it take to remain competitive in a changing political environment? Participants will have an opportunity to examine the challenges and opportunities facing the party, understand the forces shaping Hamilton County politics, and consider what the results of this fall’s elections could mean for the county’s political landscape in the years ahead.
Speaker Bio
Jim Pfaff is a retired US Air Force colonel. As a navigator with 3,500 flight hours, including combat and combat support time, he flew the KC-135 and RC 135. He was also an aircraft maintenance officer and a squadron and group commander. Jim is a veteran of operations in Panama, Bosnia, the No-Fly Zones over Iraq and Operation Enduring Freedom.
JLL, where he advises companies throughout Cincinnati, Dayton, and Northern Kentucky on office and corporate real estate strategy.
A lifelong resident of Anderson Township, Josh currently serves on the Anderson Township Board of Trustees and has remained deeply involved in economic development and community leadership throughout Hamilton County. His background in both the private and public sectors has given him firsthand experience navigating business growth, development, budgeting, and local governance.
Josh earned his degree in Marketing and Real Estate from the University of Cincinnati’s Lindner College of Business. Over the years, he has been active with numerous civic and professional organizations across the region, including the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Chambers of Commerce, NAIOP, and several local nonprofit and community organizations.
As Chairman, Josh is focused on strengthening the Republican Party throughout Hamilton County by supporting strong candidates, expanding grassroots engagement, and advocating for policies centered around economic growth, public safety, government accountability, and protecting the values of Hamilton County families and businesses.
